On the plus side, the game seems to have daily(?) songs. You also switch between three subunits during your lives to activate different skills which adds another layer to the game, though I’m not quite sure who does what at the moment so I’ll write about that when I have more experience with the game.

The songs themselves aren’t overly complicated though with only two buttons, hold notes, and flick notes that sometimes work. The game makes you remember you aren’t just here to tap buttons and watch the idols perform. The difficulty also starts ever-so-slowly ramping up through the use of more notes which drain your stamina which really forces you to level your cards.

I went from getting S scores effortlessly to getting B scores with a full combo. Let me say that if you aren’t leveling your cards by the end of chapter two, your live scores are going to drop. It actually took me a while to figure that out! To actually level the card itself, you use gold and silver. You eventually get to better rewards like massive stat boosts and SR/UR costumes if your card is the proper rarity, but there’s a long way to go especially when the materials to level up early in the game are scarce. It’s pretty standard- click on a spot, have the appropriate materials to level up, click the button to level up in whatever stat, done. Maybe a skill tree is a better word for it. Training your cards involves leveling them up on a screen that looks like a board game. The training screen with aqours, which costs AP instead of LP. I’m glad I picked Rina since she has a pretty fun outfit plus I wanted to see how they handled animating her mask. The game gives you the costume of whatever girl you chose initially after leveling her in the tutorial. You take your idols down a set path to boost their stats and unlock their idolized costume about halfway through. All Stars plays more like an idol raising sim with rhythm game “elements”, with more focus on the raising part. The first chapter consists of going through stories and lives in alternating order. We get a brief look at leveling up characters which is possibly the most important aspect in the game, but I’ll get into that later.

The tutorial is pretty standard for a phone game- you learn about the scout screen, picking characters to put on teams, and how to navigate the menus. The game also has a 5% UR, though that means absolutely nothing when it comes to gatcha if you’re a terribly unlucky person. This saved me from rerolling, though if I didn’t get her I planned on rerolling until I got Dia or Hanamaru’s URs to start off with. I knew this wasn’t the norm since I watched everyone in discord posting their results. All Stars went live around ten o’clock last night and I was ready to reroll, but luck just happened to be on my side.įirst off, the tutorial runs you through how to scout and I got Ruby’s UR from it. The time has finally come for the next iteration in the Love Live franchise of mobile games.
